Current Version: 1.3 (August 2, 2014)
Official GitHub repo

The name doesn't refer to the "Level Information" Reggie uses, but to Newer's LevelInfo.bin - the file which stores all of the game's level and world names!
Unfortunately, the file, and therefore the editor, doesn't support Unicode text.

Download version 1.3

Enjoy!

Hah, Gaaayyyy. Just joking, I do too. Roadrunner you're good at this! Does it have sprite images and Newer songs, though?

How do you know the file format of all these files?

Hah, Gaaayyyy.
Yeah. SO FUNNY. Right?

Some things to note:

- The format of this is gonna change when we finish support for Translations, because names are moving into the BMG

- The secret message is never actually used by the game

- Flags are actually: 2 = is level, 0x10 = normal exit, 0x20 = secret exit, 0x400 = shows up on right side of Star Coins. Switch Palaces and something we didn't actually use in the final game have 0x10 but not 2, because they're not actually levels.

- You treated "world section headers" differently, but in reality, they're just normal level entries with 0 flags :p

Left name: File 99-99, Display W-100, Flags 0
Right name (for some worlds): File 99-99, Display W-101, Flags 0

I'll try to answer everything in one big post:

Thanks!
No, this isn't a level editor. It edits LevelInfo.bin - a file the Newer Team invented which you can find in NewerSMBW/NewerRes. That file stores information the game uses on the world map and the Star Coins screen, including the level names and world names. So it's not a replacement or modification of Reggie - it's a brand-new program which edits a different file.

It just takes a hex editor, a lot of thought and a lot of practice.

OK, I'll update the program when that happens.

That's why it's called the Secret Message.

- Flags are actually: 2 = is level, 0x10 = normal exit, 0x20 = secret exit, 0x400 = shows up on right side of Star Coins. Switch Palaces and something we didn't actually use in the final game have 0x10 but not 2, because they're not actually levels.
OK, I'll update the program to reflect that. Thanks!

- You treated "world section headers" differently, but in reality, they're just normal level entries with 0 flags :p
That's what I thought. I wrote it this way because it's less confusing for non-programmers who don't understand how the file works.

Left name: File 99-99, Display W-100, Flags 0
Right name (for some worlds): File 99-99, Display W-101, Flags 0
If there's a maximum of 2 sections per world, I'll just add it as a world setting.

@Treeki, you said it, it's funny.

@Roadrunner, I figured that out before you told me! And you're awesome now I can use Newer Sprites with images on Reggie and use Newer's songs!!!
And I can rename worlds and levels, is it possible to edit the screenshot of each level when we play it?

The previews of each level are stored somewhere else in tpl file format I think.

But is the text "No hidden messages here. Sorry." part of the file, or something this editor puts there?

Level Info Editor has been updated to version 1.1! This update makes the program easier to use - download it from the updated first post!

That's part of the original file. Someone on the Newer Team wrote that, and the editor lets you edit it. As Treeki said above, it doesn't show up anywhere in the game. I've renamed "Secret Text" to "Comments" in version 1.1 to avoid more confusion.

hmm...
A suggestion.
Can you put on a separate screen, the TPL file associated with the level?

Like, Palm Beach can display it's preview before the level loads.

The TPL files are stored in LevelSamples.

Hope you consider this.

hello there

I would like a drag-n-drop Level Preview editor so you can easily change the level preview. (It would have pics of enemies, and use tiles, backgrounds, and such, and you would arrange it in the way you wanted.)

I know, but it does not look good w/ Photoshop (no backgrounds, hard to get sprite images, hard to get tiles, etc.)

Roadrunner, another request for you. I don't wanna sound naggy, but do you know if you could make a Message.bin editor? It would help a lot!

Level Info Editor has been updated to 1.2! This is a small update that adds keyboard shortcuts and drag-and-drop support. You can download it from the first post.
