Updates, Updates, and More Updates!

There's been a lot of excitement over the past week, with both Nintendo and Sony putting out system firmware updates on the same day. Now today, we're putting out a Riivolution update ourselves!

Nintendo's update was a maintenance update - not much changed at all - but Riivolution 1.03 was inadvertently affected. Today Riivolution 1.04 has been released and is working on "4.3v2" again. This time it's been released as a boot.elf, so it will launch from the Homebrew Channel, Bannerbomb, Smash Stack, or Indiana Pwns directly. We've also included a new savefile redirection feature that allows you to store your saves directly on SD, USB, or even Wi-Fi. It's a great way to keep your normal save untouched when trying out a full game hack!

Sony's push for their update was obvious, as they state that it "includes additional security features." Specifically, it was put out to stop PSGroove and other similar devices. Progress on PlayStation 3 hacking has been tremendous, and things are improving each day. We're currently at work on "R3volution" for the PS3, so resist the urge to go on PSN and hold off on updating to 3.42 if you want to have a chance to try out custom games.

Sep 19 Update: The original 1.04 Riivolution release contained a bug which prevented the channel from installing properly. This has been fixed now, so if you're seeing error -2 when installing the channel make sure to download it again.

Wait, so this most recent Wii update won't kill Homebrew v.1.0.8?

It won't delete/block Homebrew Channel v1.0.7 and up.

Hey guys, been trying to reinstall my Riivolution channel, but I keep getting a -2 error or something similar (if you need specifics, I'll rerun the installation to get the code).

Any fixes or suggestions?

Hm, that error means it's having trouble finding boot.elf. It looks on SD/USB for either /boot.elf or /apps/riivolution/boot.elf
There might be some other device interfering - try making sure only one thing is plugged into your Wii while installing the channel (SD card or USB drive on its own).

I concur. I get the same error. I have the boot.elf in SD:\apps\riivolution and have tried with and without my USB HDD plugged in. :(

i love how you poke fun at nintendo in your wiki post for version 1.04 by using their line

" This update provides behind-the-scenes fixes that will not affect features but will improve the overall system performance."

lol

but seriously, from the sound of your post, does this mean the channel option is officially dead and you can only access riivo via the HBC now?

It's not a menu, see https://rvlution.net/wiki/Patch_Templates#Redirected_Savegames and https://rvlution.net/wiki/Patch_Format#Savegame_Patch.

Just put the template savefile xml in your riivolution folder to activate it, basically.

Aaron... i know that it is no bad thing, but I'm giving my suggestion, although such a suggestion which I speak will be nice to me ... then, when working on the next update Riivolution (more precisely Riivolution 1.05 or superior), i wanted you to put this option to "enable/disable" the indicator light slot from the Wii (it flashes whenever there is replacement of files), because flashing neon light on my Wii makes me draw your attention, so it makes me divert a little attention to my gambling. So how have you put the option to enable/disable it? But if not, no problem, okay.

From RawkSD 3.0. I couldn't resist:

Wii App - Random Suggestions
[...]
Ability to turn off the Wii drive light flash when reading from a USB hard drive. This can get fairly obnoxious for those of us with our Wiis next to our TV screens.

Proposed patch Tueidj 00:36, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Speaking of "fairly obnoxious", please don't make your whole post bold.

Thanks for the channel installer fix Aaron!

For the second time the Riivolution channel has randomly disappeared from my system menu after using the Wii Shop Channel (4.3). The first time was quite a while ago after using the Nintendo Channel (probably 4.2). I've never been able to trigger this occurrence successfully.

It's no big problem with the Homebrew Channel and BootMii, but I'm curious if this has happened to anyone else?

Damn someone noticed, now I guess I'll have to work out why the shop channel hates us and fix it.

Yes, of course it works.

And why not just say "Screw Up", or maybe even "Mess Up"? Somehow, it tends to make people more likely to be nice and answer your question.
I do hope that the above post helped you in whatever it possibly could.
I'm close to my 100th post. I need to keep an eye out...
