Puzzle - NSMB Tileset Editor

Puzzle - NSMB Tileset Editor

Postby Tempus on Mon Jun 07, 2010 8:23 pm

I was fed up with he bugs and limitations of WART, so I made my own tileset editor. It’s implemented in PyQt and python, so same stuff as Reggie. No binaries are available, python 2.6 and PyQt 4.6+ please. Requires you to compile and install the C module included with 'python setup.py -install'. Saving can be very slow.

Features of Puzzle:

Makes tilesets for NSMBW

Not features of Puzzle:

Suckage

Not to disrespect Treeki, but a "Thanks Tempus" would have been fine too, he spent hours working on this, Treeki just compiled a binary. Again, I'm not saying Treeki isn't a fantastic coder, it's just that in this situation thanks should go to Tempus.

Wow, I'm really excited to try this out! I don't have access to my NSMBW stuff right now, but I'm definitely going to check this out when I get home.

I tried downloading the binary provided, but when I try to extract it, I get an error saying the file is invalid. Downloaded twice. Could you double check it? I think a lot of people would appreciate a precompiled binary of this!

Also, do you plan on updating or improving this program?

EDIT: Ok, I just noticed the post date. Sorry I'm so late >_< If you could fix the binary link though I'd really, really appreciate it :D

ok, i need some help with Treekis Windows build. Puzzle can't open .arc files and log tells this:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "puzzle.py", line 2137, in openTileset
UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\xe4' in position 4: ordinal not in range(128)

This thing really puzzles me :D

The path you're opening a tileset from contains a special character which can't be handled by Puzzle. (The first version of Reggie had this bug too)

Use a path with no special (accented, etc) characters and it should work fine.

Does this work on a Mac? If so, how do I install it after the .zip file downloads?
(I have a .zip extractor)

run it from source
Code: Select all
cd <path to puzzle folder>
python puzzle.py

you will need python installed(duh)

Okay... I'm in Python thru Terminal, and I have the extracted .zip files.
I'm lost.
Can I have some kind of tutorial on this...?

make sure you have python 2.7(is puzzle 3.0 compatable tempus?) installed.
extract puzzle
in your terminal...
Code: Select all
cd <path to puzzle>
python puzzle.py

simple enough eh'?
im sure someone can build you a binary. I would, but i have no idea how to.

It's that one part, <path to puzzle>, that gets me. What does that mean?

I think it's the location where you placed Puzzle.

eg. if you placed it in c:/puzzle/, you do cd c:/puzzle
