Featured NSMBWii Levels

Postby Aaron on Tue Mar 23, 2010 5:30 pm

For those who may not have noticed, Riivolution was updated last night. With it came network support, and so the first public RiiFS server is now online.

This server is exclusively for use with Riivolution, and requires that your Wii has an active internet connection. You simply download our XML and place it on your SD or USB drive; whenever you start Riivolution with NSMBWii in your Wii it will connect to the server and allow you to try out the monthly selection of community levels. Updates are planned to happen monthly, and will require no action from your part; besides restarting your Wii.

The levels will be streamed over the internet to your Wii as you play the game. Those with particularly slow internet connections may notice load times of up to 10 seconds for a level; though it's normally not nearly that long.

Download XML - Place this in your normal /riivolution folder on your SD or USB device.

More Information

March 2010
This first month has a feature of selected levels placed into Worlds 1 and 2, with World 1 primarily filled with levels designed by BulletBillTime. Check out the wiki page for full details.

Haha, thanks for using my level! I'm glad you liked it.

I'm whipping up another level as we speak.

It will work with retail discs. It doesn't matter if your Wii is softmodded or not.
It does not work with backups

Question, can I use the network code within another customized xml? I tried it, and the options were all still there (didn't enable the custom levels though) but my other patches weren't working. I'm 95% sure my directories and names were right, since I changed very little after I tried putting the code in.

Not sure what you mean... You see the options from the network but when they're enabled they don't do anything? Usually that means it can't find the files... Remember that external="/nsmb" actually means /your/path/to/riifs/root/nsmb.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, my xml looked something like this:
Code: Select all
<wiidisc version="1">
  <id game="SMN"/>
  <options>

    <section name="misc">

      <option name="Retro Intro">
        <choice name="Enabled">
          <patch id="retro"/>
        </choice>
      </option>

    </section>

  </options>

  <network protocol="riifs" address="67.214.140.23" port="2011"/>

  <patch id="retro">
    <file disc="/Stage/01-40.arc" external="/riivolution/NSMBW/01-40 (retro).arc"/>
  </patch>

</wiidisc>

I saw the network options on page 1, and my stuff on page 2. I disabled the featured levels (just cause I didn't want them at the time) and enabled the custom intro, but the intro wasn't loaded. Maybe I just screwed something up, idk...
Edit: You can forget this, I fixed it.

This is a great idea, but it is very slow for me (takes about 5 minutes) and I get an error message when I try to open the game Maybe this is just my bad internet connection though.

EDIT: The error message i because I tried to activate both the functions in Riivolution at the same time. I also get a loading time by approx. 30 s. per level and 5 minutes when I try to load a save file. My internet connection is 0,5 mbit/s so I didnt expect it to be fast, but still.

I've also put a server with Riifs.

Instead of 'featuring levels', the top 15 levels are updated from the File Depot with a shell script.

For more info see the: Most Popular NSMB Levels page on the Wiki.

Actually the patch files are pretty small (just some KB's)

But the wii is not that fast with internet (wlan is a lot slower).
Just hope next versions will be faster ^^

It's pretty slow
D:
I can't imagine how bad it will be when overworlds can be edited.

Don't release newer exclusively as a riivolution server please

I don't think the network part even works for me. I installed v1.01, grabbed the XML and placed it in my Riivolution folder, and I see no options for it when I run it. That and there's a seemingly perpetual "Testing" phase up in the top-right corner.

The "Testing" page is from a different XML. The network XML takes up / creates a new page once it connects, so you'll have to press '+' on your wiimote or use the page navigation buttons at the top-right to change pages and see it.

If you really don't have it, well, uh, make sure you downloaded the right XML >.>

I found the reason. I had the XML files in the apps/riivolution folder not the one in the root directory. x_x

Thanks.

To pre-empt any questions about this... I've updated my RiiFS server, so you'll need to update to Riivolution v1.02 to continue using it. I really recommend doing so even if you're not using it :P

EDIT: And over the next day or so my server is being moved, so the levels are going to be offline for that time. They'll be back :)

EDIT 2: Yeah it's back.

IT DOESN'T WORK
Super Mario Brothers: Bowser Returns - recreating every single level in New super mario bros wii
(except 2-castle)
Nothing fancy though, just using reggie normally,

Another member here who cant get this to work. My custom levels & "Another" load fine but I just dont see an option (or additional page) for RiiFS when I load up Riivo 1.0.4. SD as follows:

SD Root/riivolution/RiiFSfeaturedNSMB.xml

The XML contains the following:-

Code: Select all
    <wiidisc version="1">
       <id game="SMN"/>
       <network protocol="riifs" address="japaneatahand.com" port="2011"/>
    </wiidisc>

My Wii internet works fine (just tested). Do I need to create another folder on my SD card or something?
