How much will the two new mario games coming out this year effect the release date? Not looking for a date just looking for what impact they have on it.

NSMBU is also a game that will gain roughly 60 million dollars, and is made by a team for a better console, while having all of the tools and source code. Newer on the other hand is a hack that will never score a single penny and is being made by five people now, with tools we had to make and thousands of lines of code we had to RE.

"Nintendo did better in such a quick time", huh? And seriously just eff off for the "just decided to relese early." If it was just a matter of 'decision', we'd have Newer released before you could say "Wibble".

Hope that Newer turns out better.
NSMBU looks almost like a NSMBWII hacks, it just have few stuff that don't really matter
(lol squirrel mario lol)

I'm pretty sure that Newer is much more challenging, giving from what i've seen in ASMBWII

When Newer comes out this community probably will grow. Would you say that we will stop "hacking" new super mario bros. and start hacking NEWER Super mario instead? You know.. Use NEWER as the new standart for NSMBW hacking?

I would say most definitely. The custom code that's been injected allows for almost any ridiculous combination of worlds and elements that you can imagine... whereas with retail, you are pretty much stuck with the themes and maps that ninty laid out.

I personally am not worried about the release date of whatever games there are. I want to play them both for realsies, but I don't even think about that stuff when it comes to Newer. Of course they are going to be of a higher quality than newer (well maybe not NSMB2), they have the friggin source code and a giant team of people who get paid big bucks to do what we do the hard way. Again, not worried about it; the release date of Newer will not be affected by anything other than the team saying "alright, it's finally done!"

*edit!

I'd like to just add one more thing, to those of you (including some Newer members) who are friggin OBSESSSSSSED with release dates.

Release dates are for professional, paid teams working for a company with access to RESOURCES. If you're in that situation, yeah, it's reasonable and expected of you to set some sort of time frame for completion.

ON THE OTHER HAND!!! If you are a ragtag bunch of gamers who want to do something cool in your free time, setting a release date (as you have seen before) is just fucking retarded and leads to heartbreak. So just stop it with the release date already.

Honestly, I don't care about the release date, as long as it is fully playable when it is released.
By the way, can you release another trailler? (just askin')

It requires more effort on Newer Team's part to do less as Nintendo has all the resources and source code.

I wonder how much Newer Team could accomplish with the proper tools and source material.

A lot.

If programming was as far ahead as level design, etc, we'd probably have been done months ago. There's a reason for that: levels are made with Reggie, a tool which was finished over 2 years ago (and was also based on work I did for NSMB DS in 2007/2008). Whereas for programming related stuff we've had to constantly work on figuring out new things.

I had taken a break from Newer for the past few months (which I've also why I'd kept away from RVLution) because I was entirely burned out, and also didn't have a whole lot of time to work on the project.

Take menu design as an example: Nintendo has a pretty drag-and-drop tool where you can position things, set up animations and see how everything looks in the editor and so on. We have nothing but Benzin (a command-line tool that converts .brlyt/.brlan files to XML and back). Editing the XML files by hand is a complete pain in the ass, especially when a lot of things aren't documented and I find myself having to look through the Layout engine's ASM a lot. We have a couple of people who know how to use it, and even then, we still have issues getting things to work in that department. It's just not fun.

World maps: We started with 3D maps. The artist who was doing them disappeared after doing a few worlds, so we had to scrap them. This was after I had already spent a few months on writing my own 3D engine (which failed), and then a BRRES converter and a map engine that went with it. I'd say his work was easily on par with Nintendo's, if not better - the W1 map that was shown for NSMBU in the Miiverse video is quite similar stylistically to what he did for our W1, IMO. But we had to scrap it because it was never finished.

Stuff like this wouldn't be an issue for a professional team. Had we had the resources and tools that Nintendo (or any real game developer, really) has, we could create a better game in far less time. But in reality we're just a bunch of people making a hack in our free time. :/

I'm looking forward to NSMBU/2, sure, but I don't really have the same "OMG A SEQUEL MUST PLAY" thing and excitement that I had when NSMBW was first announced. Maybe it's because I'm growing older and more jaded (if that even makes sense)... or just that Newer has satiated my desire for a sequel.

I'm trying to install Riivolution without homebrew, when I open the letter bomb I come to a screen where I can choose BootMii or Install Homebrew, but nothing about Riivolution. Does anyone know what I must do?

Wrong thread to post this in, this is about the lovely thing we call "Newer", not your personal issues with Riivolution. For your personal issues with Riivolution, look around the forums more and find the appropriate subforum to post your problem in.

Would you release them? I'd like to view them.

Of course, since NSMBU is basically almost the same as NSMBW, I think. Only the squirrel power up catches my eye.

Reggie does burn you out and it is a good idea to take a break every few weeks, because it gets on top of you, there's always lots of work to do and things to finish and test and it never ends lol

I love it but when you haven't watched tv or done anything else for 2 weeks because your brain keeps throwing ideas at you, you burn out quick and end up with 10 unfinished levels on your desktop lol

And even worse the closer to get to the end the more you seem to have to do, I love it but at same time its worse then crack hahahahahaha I have turned my pc off at 3am many times only for me to turn it back on at 3.10am lol

Yeah it's tough when you hit a rough spot it can make you want to quit for a while. I had made a level and for the life of me couldn't figure out why it was black screening and I quit for a year. Eventually I just kept deleting stuff until it worked one day. To this day I still don't know why it black screened. I can't imagine how much I could have accomplished up until now had I not stopped. DUSMBAE would be finished by now easily... but would it be as good as it will be when we finally do finish it? Doubt it, as I have learned so much since then and a lot of that would not have made its way into the game had we finished it before.

Since I started again I spend so much time trying to help and encourage others that I rarely use my time to create new levels myself lol. So I haven't burned out these last couple months. I'm hoping I don't at all.

And I'm hoping Newer Team doesn't before they release :D

Personally, I'd find it odd if those games affected Newer's release date, since (AFAIK) one is for 3DS, one for Wii U, and Newer for Wii.

I'm sure many people who own a Wii also own a 3DS and/or Wii U (when it's released (it's not out yet, is it?)), but then there are us "older" gamers who only play something once in a while and don't always have the newest consoles and games, and don't care about anything else than Newer.

Whoa, how long has it been since the last time I came here. Anyway, I was playing MKW online on Waluigi stadium and the surface looks familair to Pop's dirt tileset. Just wanted to know if it is the same.
Btw, Void how's it going in newer?
Also, happy summer holidays (I'm saying it now, cause I don't know when I will come back)
