I'm really interested to what extent you've worked on backgrounds for Newer. Have you done any 3D backgrounds from scratch or edited existing 3D backgrounds? How about the 2D ones? I'd love some tips on what works and doesn't work cause I've fooled around and the couple things I've tried really looked crappy :|

Although I can't really give you tips, I do know that Newer will use both new custom 2D backgrounds, and edited existing 3D backgrounds.

Do you anticipate any mainstream media attention to the release of Newer?

I understand that these sort of things usually fall under the radar, especially when only Homebrew playable, which, frankly, the average person either won't understand at all or will think is illegal. I, for instance, didn't know about "Another" until it had been out for at least a year.

I just didn't know with a project of this magnitude, and with the worldwide following of Mario fans, if this particular one might be noticed on a little larger scale.

We don't anticipate anything, but it may happen.

Reggie and at least one of the Newer trailers made it onto a few high-profile sites like GoNintendo and Joystiq.

A ban has been issued on your username.

I'm a nice person. Could someone please tell me what I did wrong and who banned me?

I did. I got no response.

did you wait longer than 10 seconds?

Anyhow you were probably banned for testing the waters. You think following the rules are optional when you're trying to be funny. Posting several goodbye messages in the long dead NSMA hack threads. Being a smart-ass with staff.

That's my guess at least.

@Void007

thanks for the info... good to know.

Still hopeful for some tips though. I think for the 1024x640 ones making things like terrain and objects smaller is key and if using scroll making sure the edges are seamless. Backgrounds need to look rather generic... or nothing too stand out-ish cause if they repeat it looks too... repetitve? :P

MOD EDIT: hell of a guess

Ha ha, whatever.

Anyway, before, I PM'ed Skawo about staffroll.bin, and he said you were going to release a program that converted staffroll.bin into a text file, so we could make our own custom credits.

Yeah, there is a tool like such. Rather...hard to use, though.

Darn it. Hmm... I've been searching on the internet for bin to text conversions. I don't think it's that simple.. :(

When it comes to hacking this game, nothing is simple, even if you know exactly what you're doing.

I wouldn't think it would be too hard to do with something like thingy32 then experimenting around to make a tablebase. Then again, since all the coins are saved with the letters it might be a bit more difficult. Your best bet is probably just trial and error experimentation with a hex editor on the file untill you see some patterns emerge.

The coin arrangement is random. You can set a special tag for certain names to be all coins, but Nintendo does that only once, with Iwata's name.

I mean staffroll.bin, specifically.
dcsquare wrote:What Inspired You To Make NSMBW ?

You better write Newer SMBW, otherwise some people will think you know what.
