If New Super Mario Bros. 2 had an option that makes you only get a life after 500 or 1000 coins, it would have helped. So the veteran players can have some challange.

A little new here so hello! :P And now a few questions I want to ask.

So I want to know when will the soundtrack come out and are some of the themes remixed or completely original?

Are there new worlds, like more than 9? Also are the worlds still in their same order? Grass, Desert, Snow, Beach, etc.?

Are the Koopalings in it or are they taken out and replaced by the Original Bosses?

Release Trailer when it comes out?

What is one of the new cutscenes?

The soundtrack will most likely come out when the game is out. You can get the track for the specials.

There are over 130 levels so probably more than 9. The worlds are different, I know one is a sewer world.

We don't know. The newer team are not giving us that many spoilers.

Probably a week before Newer is out

Probably a new intro

Nope, 9 worlds it is. And the sewer world idea is a really outdated idea, there won't be a sewer world since it's quite a limiting idea.

That's not my department; it's not quite something I can answer.

YoshiGo99 wrote:Are there new worlds, like more than 9? Also are the worlds still in their same order? Grass, Desert, Snow, Beach, etc.?
No, they're all different.

YoshiGo99 wrote:Are the Koopalings in it or are they taken out and replaced by the Original Bosses?
That's to be found out when the game is released... But there are new bosses!

YoshiGo99 wrote:Release Trailer when it comes out?
There will be one shortly before the game release. (Probably once we actually complete the game and begin fully testing it.)

YoshiGo99 wrote:What is one of the new cutscenes?
Bowser kidnaps Peach. Yet again. (And a bunch of other stuff happens, but I'm not spoiling that :p)

There is a space world, though.

Yeah there was one in one of the two trailers. But at least we know a bit more. Thanks for the help guys, I just really admire all this work that's put into it.

Sorry if this has been asked already (been trying to go through 140 pages of the thread). Is the Newer Team concerned at all about releasing Newer before November when the Wii U will most likely launch with NSMBWU as a launch title? Just wondering if that is going to kill a lot of focus that would have been put on Newer. Hopefully its close enough to finished that Newer will be out before November?

Please refrain from making posts such as this one.

Anyways, to answer the other guy's question:
People have been waiting for this hack for 3 years now. Just because another Mario game is going to be released simillar to NSMBWii doesn't mean people will completly forget about Newer. If they hadn't forgotten us by now, I doubt they'd do so in the future before it's finally done.

Anyway, Newer is going to be really awesome, and I can't for NewerReggie! Are you going to release the extractor for .bin files?

I agree. If you have a Wii, and NSMBWii, and have been waiting for Newer and are still waiting for it to be released, a new console release won't make a difference. Plus Newer is free, while the new Mario game + WiiU is probably gonna cost you a few hundred dollars/euros/whatever. Of course, this is only what I think. I don't intend to buy a new console anytime soon.

Newer question, so I don't go completely off topic: Will there be switch palaces (or whatever they're called) like in Super Mario World?

I cannot guarantee that it will be - something may end up happening in the mean time that delays the game - but we will try our hardest to get it out before. The game is progressing very well but it's always hard to estimate times, and I'm not familiar with how some departments are coming along like music and cutscenes.

mario64 wrote:Anyway, Newer is going to be really awesome, and I can't for NewerReggie! Are you going to release the extractor for .bin files?
No such thing exists. .bin is a generic file extension (it stands for "binary file") that pretty much just means... any format. In fact, Newer includes a few of its own (data for custom hacks, like info on level names and animated tiles) and they all use wildly different formats.

We have a sense of humor, we're just tired of younger users de-railing this thread with them trying to be "funny".

And as Treeki said, no such thing as extractor for .bin files. As for NewerReggie! goes, from my sight it's nothing really different then your plain ol' Reggie, just includes a couple of new custom sprites and other smaller details.

@Skawo, @Pop, and @Tempus mostly but others welcome to reply ;) '

I'm really interested to what extent you've worked on backgrounds for Newer. Have you done any 3D backgrounds from scratch or edited existing 3D backgrounds? How about the 2D ones? I'd love some tips on what works and doesn't work cause I've fooled around and the couple things I've tried really looked crappy :|

Not to derail your question, but what was wrong with the backgrounds you messed around with?
Were they pixelated or something?

In addition to Jason's question, do you guys have an in-house background editing tool (the term "tool" being used loosely) that makes said process easier, or is it very much a trial and error situation? I'm really just wondering what state bg editing is at with you guys.

It's not the resolution problem, it's more of understanding which backgrounds to edit (256x256, 1024x640 etc) and what kind of seamless wrapping to worry about and what settings are best to place the custom backgrounds at (especially the 1024x640 2D ones).

These two backgrounds for example did not work as well as I'd hoped, for different reasons.

Image Image

The first, everything just looked massive. Even placing at 100% I had to set the Y offset. The I had the issue that I couldn't have it scroll as it's not seamless. Maybe for a small zone I could. But even if the grass tiled seamlessly the well we couldn't very well have 2 or more suns could we. Such is the issue with the second background. I could probably set it to be static... but that doesn't look very good in a large zone.

However, if I take the moon or sun out, it's very plain looking. I can't think of the word I'm looking for. It's an issue that comes down to the limitations of the edits I can make to the game. Apparently the 1024x640 backgrounds repeat not just on the X plane but Y as well, so at the very least I assume if you edit them either make them seamless both ways, or don't allow the background to scroll much vertically and don't place it in a tall zone... and vice versa with vertical backgrounds and levels etc and so on and so forth and that's all folks.

Any and all tips are graciously welcomed :D
