Site Suggestions

Currently, the RVLution.net site is still under a lot of work, and there is still a lot to be done. You can help it by making suggestions (within reason), and it can be checked over, and decided upon. If you notice any problems with the site, please put them here too. It can be from big things (we need to add a wiki) to little things (we need to change the color of the text here).

Home portal needs a Riivolution header link :P
And the Riivolution homepage/wiki could use a common RVLution template, something that has a header to the forums and stuff. Though that one's my fault really.

-Consolidate some of the consoles in one area, especially considering that I doubt there'll be much PS360 hacking activity.
-Introduce a PSP/iPhone hacking section as well (maybe a hacking subforum?)
-Project forums (FF4, RSD, etc.)
-Otherwise I think it's really nice :o

A better forum. -_-; Honestly, this type of forum is really clumsy. No easy way to mark off forums' posts without going into them and navigating is just troublesome overall. I guess I'm used to SMF, personally.

But that's not really a reasonable request so here's something more helpful - When viewing Reggie, there's a File Depot link, but it's just a text link. Is there any chance for an easier access link, possibly along the top of the page? There's still "Reggie" there. So I can click it and end up from Reggie to Reggie.

Really, just streamline getting to important pages like the File Depot, Riivolution wiki, etc. Right now it just feels clunky.

Header Links:

Wiki
FIle Depot (Next to Reggie! at all times)

Remove "Blog" because its empty. :o :o :o
(NEVER leave a blog empty or else it will cry to its owner for content!) (<---- Joke)

Those are the only things that are out of place, that I could think off right now...

Just to make this clear: with Wiki, we mean an actual Wiki and not the Riivolution one ;)

So, you mean you want a button on all the headers for the Wii File Depot?

We need a stronger CAPTCHA or something... I've had to delete and ban 4 spambots today >.>

EDIT: Just installed reCAPTCHA, hopefully it'll help us a bit.

I see this is a bit old, but, what if you added a Mario Kart Wii section? That way the MKW hackers will have an entire forum to put everything instead of a single thread on another site.

I think it would be nice to have a sub-forum or thread just like this one, but for Reggie and Riivolution development instead. Where users can make suggestions on what they'd like to see in the next version of Reggie or Riivolution. This is of course if you are still working on both for future releases.

I know it would open things up to people asking for stupid or impossible things, but it would also be a great place to get feedback and ideas for things that CAN be implemented. :)

would it be possible to maybe loosen the restrictions on the Search function? I mean come on... I searched for help on Tile God events with the keywords tile god and got the following message:

The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: god tile.

Seriously? Next time I will search for shingle Jehovah but somehow I don't think that will give me the results I need.

Hm, phpbb's search fails :/

The sad thing is even using Google to search "tile god site:rvlution.net" fails because the forum URLs aren't SEO-friendly. Maybe we should use a plugin to at least fix that so Google will start crawling our forums. Or maybe phpbb is simply telling robots not to crawl the forums, which is just as annoying.

That's dumb.

I just checked the settings:
Common word threshold:
Words which are contained in a greater percentage of all posts will be regarded as common. Common words are ignored in search queries. Set to zero to disable. Only takes effect if there are more than 100 posts. If you want words that are currently regarded as common to be reconsidered you have to recreate the index.

It was previously set to 5%, I'm changing it to 30% since I think that's reasonable -- let me know if it still causes issues.

I'm new here so feel free to disregard my opinion :D

On the forum allow users to choose how many posts should be displayed per page. I've wanted to ask a few questions but feel obligated to read through other threads first (hey at least I bother ro read first) incase it's been asked before. Some threads, like this one, are 66 pages long. Would be easier to read through if I could see 100 posts per page :)

Wait, seriously? phpBB has so much bloat and doesn't even allow per-user settings for this? Why are we using this awful system anyway?

I've doubled the default setting to 20 for now. I'm not enough of a masochist to try and add per-user settings for posts per page...

Thanks Treeki. I switched to Punbb (then its fork Fluxbb) years ago to avoid the bloat but updating for each release is tedious if you need to reinstall mods.

I just realised theres a search function within the topic pages here so will start using that too.

When a user deletes his/her account, or when a user is banned etc can we keep there posts? As an example it looks like the first 7 guidelines for a good nsmbw level design have been deleted, which I presume happened when the original thread starter left?

Now I'll never know how to create a good level

If the posts were deleted then it was either by accident or because the author requested it.
Normally all posts stay.
